Germany's Invasion of Poland

German Blitzkrieg
Germany was the first to invade and they invaded Poland, then the USSR invaded east under the lead of Joseph Stalin. Hitler and Stalin had agreed to split Poland between the two of them. Later several countries fell under Nazi power in the next few months.

Operation Barbarossa
This was on of the biggest military operations the world had seen in a long time over three million soldiers were involved in Operation Barbarossa. The Soviet amry was very unprepared and only had enough rifles for every two men.

Pearl Harbor
There was a planned attack that the Japanese were waiting for but one day the aircraft men saw the harbor and felt that they had to attack then. Soldiers and citizens of America didn't expect this and were in complete shock. All of the smoke from the guns being fired created this black smoke and filled the air. People died before they could even grasp onto what was happening.

Wannsee Conference
Reinhard Heydrich, leader of SS, announced that this conference would be a final solution for the Jewish problem. He wanted to make his land "Jew-free" while he was in charge.

Battle of Midway
Early naval battle between the United States Navy and the Empire of Japan in the Pacific Theater. Japan wanted to lure the United States into a trap, this would force American carriers out of the Pearl.

Battle of Stalingrad
The Soviet Army somehow started to gain victories where they needed them the most. Stalingrad was no exception to some big events along the East Front.

Warsaw Uprising
The timing seemed perfect for the Polish military powers in Warsaw to eject their conquerors from the city. The Poles had a plan to move the Germans out of the city, while welcoming the Soviet Army.

D-Day (Invasion of Normandy)
France was the ultimate battleground for turning a tide on both sides. Germany was in a bloody horrific mess with the Red Army. They began losing ground in Italy and Northern Africa. But the Germans had easy access to a route that led them to the north sea. Germany was perpared for any invasion on the English shores.

Liberation of Concentration Camps
There were public opinions being voiced about the crimes being committed in concentration camps. Soviets reached the Germans and started to exterminate camps in eastern Poland. This went to the extent of Nazi brutality was broadened when the Red Army liberated Auschwitz in Western Poland.

Battle of the Bulge
A verteran said that the battle was organized but they lacked food supply. This battle had the largest engagement of American soldiers.

Battle of Iwo Jima
This was the famous battle where four american soldiers were photographed raising the stars and stripes of the American Flag. This battle was fought on a Japanese-held volcanic island. The extinct volcano gave the soldiers a great vantage point for overlooking the battle ground.

Battle of Okinawa
The island of Okinawa was a mark on the map for both the Japanese and the allies. The shores of Okinawa were prepared for the war that was coming. By the end of battle the island had fell into the hands of the allies. ( date isnt right because i coukdn't find it. )

VE Day
This was the day that Hitler died. The allies saw this as a time to come up with an escape plan so they started to collaberate. The circumstances of Hitler's death were nit clear until weeks after it happened. High ranking Nazi officers fell into the position of taking over his legacy.

Dropping the Atomic Bombs
This event marked the end of the war in the pacific. America dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two Japanese cities. These bombs killed 120,000 civilians that were living in Japan at the time.

VJ Day
This was the unofficial surrenderence of Japan that soon became official in September of 1945. Japan surrendered after the attack on them made by American soldiers involving the use of atomic bombs on their homeland.
