  • Assassination of Ferdinand.

    Assassination of Ferdinand.
    Archduke Ferdinand, heir to the austria-hungarian throne's assassination sparked the start of fighting in europe. Ferdinand and his wife sohpie were killed by Gavrilo princip while visiting sarajevo. Princip shot Ferdinand as he was traveling in his car, Ferdinand having already survived one assassination attempt earlier that day.

    Lusitania
    Lusitania was the name of a British ocean liner. The Lusitania entered passenger service on August 26,1907. The Lusitania was fired upon by Germans u-boat later identified as U-20. The Lusitania sank roughly 18 minutes after the attack killing 1,198 passengers and became an icon that turned most nations against Germany and was one incident that lead to the United States entry to the war.

    Election of !916
    Election of 1916 took place when Europe was fighting in WW I. The public was debating because the majority of the public would like to remain neutral in the war. Wilson won election by a narrow margin most likely because of his campaign slogan "he kept us out of war" while Hughes was thought to secretly take us into the war.

    Zimmerman Note
    A coded telegram dispatched by foreign secretary of the German empire, Arthur zimmerman. The message was intercepted and decoded by British cryptographers of room 40. The zimmerman note was instructing Mexico to join the war effort by going against the U.S, in exchange Germany would provide material aid for the recovery of lost terrirtory during the Mexican-American war.

    Russian revolution.
    The Russian revolution, Bolshevick revolution, October revolution started in 1917 and were actually two revolutions. the first was the Feburary revolution in which Tsar abdicated the throne. The second was the October revolution in which the provisional government was overthrown and power taken by the Bolshevicks.

    The act authorized the federal government to raise an army numbering hundreds of thousands to fight a modern war. The selective service act was put in effect right after the U.S declared war on Germany and Entered the War. The act was canceled at the end of the war.

    War Industry Board
    War Industry Board was Established as the U.S entered The Great War. The War Industry Board was established to provide all needed materials for World War I. The industry supplied high wages to prevent strikes.

    On January 8 ,1918. 10 months before the Armastice with Germany. President Wilson gave a speech on foreign policy. The Speech's purpose was to show others that the "Great War" was being fought for a just cause and peace in Europe.

    The Sedition act passed in 1918 ammended the Espionage Act which outlawed Abusive language about the U.S Government and anyone in service to the U.S Government. The Sedition Act also made the Espionage Act give great power to the postmaster.

    The signing of the Armastice by Turkey and autria-hungary signaled the end of the war and Germany soon began to crumble. The terms of agreement called for the stop of all fighting and on November 11, at 11 AM the Great war was over.

    A supreme Court case. The Supreme court upheld the Espionage and Sedition Acts and concluded that during War, Citizens do not have the Freedom of speech against the draft. The case established the "clear and Present Dangers" Test.

    The Treaty of Versailles was one Peace treaty for World War I. It took 6 months of negotiations for the treaty to be signed even though the war had already ended after the Armstice. The treaty created The League of Nations and was signed in Paris at the Versailles palace.
