The archduke was parading the streets of Bosnia when he was shot and killed by a member of a Serbian nationalist group. This act started WW1 because Bosnia was given a month to punish the nationalist group but they did not so Austria was angered and declared war on Bosnia. -
Russia mobilizes troops
Russia declared that they were mobilizing troops in support of Serbia. This influenced Germany to declare war on Russia 3 days later, which started moving the bigger countries into the war. -

A battle fought between the French, British, and Germans, this was the first battle of WW1. The Germans had invaded Belgium and Northeastern France and the French and British forces are trying to push them back to Germany. -
Germany sinks the Lusitania
The German naval ships sunk the Lusitania because it was in German territories. It was an Italian ship but there were American passengers on it and it angered the Americans that it was sunk. -
Invasion of Verdun
Germany attacks Verdun to try to keep the French busy and get them away from another front. It becomes a morale boost for the French and does not work for the Germans. -
USA enters the war
The Lusitania and the Zimmerman telegram angered the USA enough to enter the war and declare war on Germany first. -

The United States president Woodrow Wilson released his 14 points speech that was supposed to bring peace. It did not succeed in doing that. -
Treaty of Brest-Likvosk
Russia signs the treaty of Brest-Likvosk. This treaty gave up Russian states to Germany and also gave a few territories to the Ottoman Empire. -
Attack at Muesse-Argonne
This attack was the last offensive push of the war and was an Allied victory. -
End of WW1
Germany signs a contract that ended WW1. This was more than 5 years after the start of the war.
