According to Cause and Effect Belgium army was swept aside easily enough, however, the French held off the German forces. With the failure of the Schleiffen Plan, trench warfare ensued. The Scheifflin Plan led to the use of trench warfare. According to Historical Perspective, Germany belevied that it could sweep France as they did to the Belgium army, but thier own beleifs had contridicted them.
