    The Archduke of Austria was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist.This is the number one cause of WWI. Many events led up to the war. However, this was what started the chain series of events.
  • Austria-Hungary Declared War

    Austria-Hungary Declared War
    Austria-Hungary declared war onto Serbia. Before declaring war, Austria gave Serbia a handful of harsh demands. They had 48 hours to complete, if they did not Austria threatened to invade. Not only did Serbia assassinate the Archduke, they also did not meet Austria-Hungary needs.
  • Germany Invades Belgium

    Germany Invades Belgium
    Before the Germans declared war on France, they needed access across Belgium. The problem was that Belgium was a neutral country, therefore not taking either sides. This led to Germany using a final offer, and if Belgium had refused Germany would invade and take over. Belgium had refused and Germany had invaded. This is when the first attack of WWI had happened.

    German submarines sink British passenger ship traveling from New York to Liverpool, England. The ship had 1,198 passengers. 128 of them being Americans. After this, Germany had put restrictions on submarine warfare.     Zimmerman Telegram
    The Zimmerman telegram was a coded message sent by German Minister Zimmerman to Mexico in January 1917. The communication was an attempt to draw Mexico into war if the United States join the Allies in Europe.   • U.S Enters the War

    U.S Enters the War
    Once the war had erupted, President Woodrow decided for the U.S to remain neutral. However, the Zimmerman Telegraph was the last straw. President Woodrow gave a speech to Congress announcing that U.S would go to war fighting for peace. The U.S only had a few trained troops, but numbers skyrocketed at the number of volunteers and drafts. U.S arrived just in time because both sides were exhausted.     The significance of the Russians withdrawing from war wasn't immediate. At first, the withdrawal had benefited Germany. However, in the long run, it came back to haunt Germany. In Russia, the withdrawal led to the Civil War and forced the Allies onto the Eastern Front.

    After entering the war, President Wilson announced his famous Fourteen Points. These points were his plans for peace and the goals of the United States in entering the war. Wilson was the only leader to state his goals for after the war.     USA had never declared war on Austria-Hungary so the Austrians thought they would get a better deal from U.S than they would from Britain,France,and Italy.The Austrians also liked Wilson's Fourteen Points,as a treaty and would have let Austria go without paying for losing a long and destructive war that they had played a large part in.

    Both sides had agreed on an armistice, kinda like a break from fighting while a peace treaty is established. The Treaty of Versailles officially ended the war. The U.S did not sign the Treaty of Versailles, instead they made a treaty with Germany. New nation borders were made, and League of Nation was formed.
