    Germany invaded Poland, setting off war in Europe. Germany invaded Poland because they felt as if Poland needed to be to be partitioned between the two powers ( Germany and the Soviet Union). Only later on leading the Soviet Union to invade Poland and the Baltic nations. Also known as “German Blitzkrieg”.

    Germany invaded France and captured Paris. Hitler invaded France to get revenge for the loss in the first World War. Causing other allies of France to join the war.
  • Battle of Britain began

    Battle of Britain began
    Germany was planning to have the world's largest sustained bombing campaign because they knew that this was going to be a major and difficult battle for the Nazi Germans. But instead Winston Churchill rallied his people to negotiate against Hitler. The British had a lot more though, they had an effective air defense system, first-rate fighter pilots, and a great military leader in Air Marshal Hugh Dowsing. On the other hand, the Germans had no navy due to the coast of Norway.

    The United States gave Britain war supplies and old naval warships. In exchange for military bases in Bermuda and the Caribbean. This ended the United States’ pretense of neutrality and was a decisive step away from non-interventionist policy.

    Germany invaded the Soviet Union. They invaded the Soviet Union because Hitler wanted to rule the world and he felt that attacking Russia first was just a portion of that goal. But once again Germany had been defeated once more but this loss was at Stalingrad, marking the turning point of the war in Eastern Europe.

    Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Japan wanted the U.S Pacific Fleet not the interfere with the war so they planned a surprise attack with 353 Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes. All eight U.S. Navy battleships were damaged, with four sunk. 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded. While in Japan, 29 aircraft and 64 servicemen were killed.

    They declared war on the United States because they felt as if After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Germany declared war on the United States. They were already at war before and just decide to make it official. This also led to the United States declaring war on Japan and Germany.
  • The Bataan Death March

    U.S. surrender of the Bataan Peninsula on the main Philippine island of Luzon to the Japanese during World War II (1939-45). The approximately 75,000 Filipino and American troops on Bataan were forced to make an arduous 65-mile march to prison camps. The marchers made the trek in intense heat and were subjected to harsh treatment by Japanese guards. Thousands perished in what became known as the Bataan Death March.

    The United States was victorious against Japan in the Battle of Midway. Japan once again had a plan to get rid of the U.S. Pacific Fleet so the Japanese could get rid of any threat in the Central Pacific. Unfortunately for the Japanese, the U.S. broke the Japanese naval code and found out all about their surprise attack. Franklin Roosevelt planned a surprise attack, on their surprise attack to win the Battle of Midway.
  • D-Day Begins

    D-Day Begins
    American and other Allied troops landed in Normandy, France, on D-Day to begin the liberation of Western Europe. 56,000 Allied soldiers stormed a handful of beaches along the coast of Normandy, France. Omaha was the bloodiest of the D-Day beaches, with roughly 2,400 U.S. troops turning up dead, wounded or missing. This was because of their high defenses and the steep cliffs they have. The Allies were barely successful in taking control over these D-Day beaches.
  • U.S dropped atomic bombs

    U.S dropped atomic bombs
    The United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japan. One in Hiroshima and the other in Nagasaki. President Harry S. Truman ordered that the new weapon will be used to bring the war to a fast end without as much American casualties. An American bomber Nola Gay dropped a five-ton bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Japan then surrendered and dropped out of the war.
