    Surgery at a Mother's House
    Clara and her head of surgery arrived at a woman's house to perform surgery on her son. Unfortunately, the doctor was less than enthusiastic about the outcome. He wasn't going to try to go through with the surgery, but the mother convinced him to go through with it. Clara was against this decision, but proceeded with the procedure.
  • Enlistment Overseas

    Enlistment Overseas
    Clara goes to enlist overseas at a hospital in her home town. She enlists and is then told that they have a full party. The lady at the desk tells her that she'll see what could be done. Clara is disappoint but heads home with high hopes.
  • Camp Custer

    Camp Custer
    Clara arrived home to the telephone ringing. She answered, and it was the lady from the overseas enlistment center. She was told that the party was too full, but that there was camp, Camp Custer, that was desperately in need of nurses. She took the job, wanting to give aid wherever she was needed.
  • Outbreak at Custer

    Outbreak at Custer
    Clara was assigned to help out in the medic ward with a pneumonia outbreak. Clara was working the night shift one night when she felt lightheaded and was told to go sit for a minute. She was found a little later pass out on the floor of the ladies restroom, with a fever of 104. She was diagnosed with pneumonia, and was told to stay in the medic ward. She was fine a week later.

    Overseas Enlistment at Custer
    Being enlisted at Custer was better for Clara in the long run. She and her friend enlisted for overseas shipment at Custer. Her group was picked to go overseas to Paris before the previous group back at Clara's hometown. She was going to New York 6 weeks before going to her base in France. The head doctor's began to plan party for the nurses who were shipping out in 2 weeks.

    Battle of Tannenberg
    August 26th, 1914 is the beginning of the Battle of Tannenberg; the Russians and Germans go at it for four days. On August 30th the battle was over an won. The victor was the Germans. They take over 92000 prisoners of war, and claim Tannenberg.

    Air Raid on the City of Light
    Germans conduct an air raid on Paris. On August 30th, the last day of battle at Tannenberg, the Germans conduct a raid on Pairs. Though it didn't have any real militaristic value, it was mainly meant to keep the Parisian people in fear. A scare tactic to give the Germans an advantage over the French.

    Japan Wins Port Town In China
    On Halloween, The Japanese army began to take over Tsingtao, China. It's a lightly garrisoned little port town on the Yellow Sea. It had been held by the Germans since 1898. After a week it was finally taken on November 6th.
  • Woman Can Work

    Woman Can Work
    Women in London began protesting for the right to work; in an effort to assist in the war effort. They had slogans like, "Women Demand The Right To Serve" and, "The Situation Is Serious-Women Must Help To Save It". They were given the right to work, and helped with military industrial work.

    Serbia invaded by by Central Powers
    Within days of crossing the Danube River, troops of the Central Powers begin to capture the town of Belgrade. Serbian soldiers and their families retreat. The families retreat to the Albanian border with snowy mountains; though France and British armies had arrived to assist the Serbs. The Central Power army had cut off the Serbians from any aid whatsoever. By the end of November Macedonia and Serbia had been taken.

    Heavy Artillery for Germans At Verdun
    The codename given to the attack on the Meuse region in France was 'Gericht' or, "the place of execution". The battle for Verdun lasted the rest of that year; the battle cry for the French was "On ne passe pas!" meaning "They shall not pass!" Because of this battle, Verdun has become the place of pride and national honor to the French people.

    The Land Between Two Rivers
    Baghdad, the present-day ultimatum for the British and Indian forces. They arrive in Mesopotamia, 100 miles from their goal in Kut-Al-Amara. They intended to capture Kut-Al-Amara and move onward. They surrendered in April 1916.

    First American Troops To France
    The first American troop to land in France was the 369th infantry; aka the Black Rattlers. They were a group of black men and women who were put mostly to manual labor. The Black Rattlers were awarded the Croix du Guerre; an award given to those who fought bravely. The Black Rattlers were in the trenches the longest out of everyone. (191 days)
  • Suffragists' Arrest

    Suffragists' Arrest
    10 suffragists were arrested in August. They were outside the White House; protesting with placards, demanding the right for women to vote. 4 of the 10 suffragists were arrested and taken to prison. This was just 2 months from the first Americans being killed in battle.
  • Jerusalem Is Taken

    Jerusalem Is Taken
    December 9th, 1917; Jerusalem is overtaken by the British, taken from the Turks. To celebrate the victory, the church bells of London ring for the first time since the war started to announce the victory. General Allenby was charged with taking Jerusalem by Christmas. By doing so weeks before the deadline, the Turks were dealt with a defeating blow.
