  • Lusitania sinks

    Lusitania sinks
    on May 7,1915 a British boat sank because of a collision from a German boat and it killed about 1,195 people. the Germans broke the naval protocol by killing innocent civilians just because they were mad that the British ship was secretly armed and it made the United States and Europe very mad which soon caused WWI. many anti-German riots broke out in London because they thought what they did was so unfair(Mcdermott 2022).
  • Balkan Wars

     Balkan Wars
    ~the Balkan wars occurred from October 8, 1912 to May 30,1913 and June 29, 1913 to August 10,1913.
    ~The balkan league contained Serbia,Bulgaria,Greece, Montenegro and the Ottoman empire . It had 75,000 men in it which later declared war on Turkey on October 8, 1912.
    ~Serbia and Greece took major destruction to the allies and the turkish were so defeated that an armistice was agreed upon by both parties on December 3, 1912. (The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica, 2023).
  • Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand

    Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
    Serbian revolutionary teenager shot Archduke Ferdinand and his wife, resulting in the great war that occurred from 1914-1918. The assassination occurred in the Bonsian capital of Sarajevo and it was initially planned for Cabrinovic to blow Archduke up with a bomb but it only killed his officers and not Archduke. The reason Archduke was assassinated was because he threatened the independence of the Serbians (Greenspan, 2020).
  • World War I begins

    World War I begins
    WWI started in 1914 right after Archduke Ferdinand was killed which created war across Europe until 1918 during that time Germany,Austria,Italy,Britain,France,USA, and more were the central powers. Over 16 million people died. Austria was the one to officially start war on June 28 on Serbia then Russia,Belgium,France,Britain,Serbia lined up against Austria and Germany and that's when the war rose high.   • Battle of Verdun

    Battle of Verdun
    February 21,1916 to December 18, 1916 is when the Verdun battle happened in Verdun,Meuse river,France. this war was a very long war and over 400,000 french casualties were suffered and germany suffered about 350,000. German gen. Falkenhayn thought that the war would end in france.On feb 21, the germans launched a huge bombardment and just hours later the infantry attack was fired. The French fought hard as well as the german but in the end the French won the Verdun war. (Bidou, 2023).
  • Battle of Gallipoli, Somme

     Battle of Gallipoli, Somme
    Battle began on July 1,1916 and ran across the western front. The battle only lasted about 5 months but in that time over 1 million soldiers died or got wounded. the French had lots of confidence in defeating the Germans but they weren't as powerful as they thought. The german machine gun took down many british troops. Almost 20,000 British troops died the first day of war, and almost as many suffered casualties as WW2. (Imperial War Museums, 2023)
  • Zimmermann Note

     Zimmermann Note
    was a coded telegram sent to the German ministry in Mexico which was sent by Arthur Zimmerman on January 16,1917. The note had the plan to renew unrestricted submarine warfare to form an alliance with Mexico and Germany if the US declared war.
    The note was intercepted by Britain which further convinced them to join WWI. the sinking of Lusitania ship on May 7, 1915 had made the US very mad and brought them into war on January 9, 1917 (The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica, 2023).
  • Russian Revolution

    Russian Revolution
    ~the Russian revolution happened because of the corruption in Russia and the workers and peasants did not stand for it and they fought and it destroyed the Russian economy(Kiger 2021).
    ~there were 2 revolutions, one in 1917 and it overthrew the imperial government then the second one was called the October Revolution but was in November. This revolution was when the Bolsheviks gained power(Kiger 2021).

    ~When the war in 1914 started, Americans didn't want to join but soon enough , Germany and Mexico wanted to form an alliance against the U.S so Woodrow Wilson declared war on April 6, 1917. Wilson initially was to stay neutral because of his proclamation. on August 4, 1914,Woodrow Wilson proclaimed his neutrality and not until a period of time later the US joined the was.     ~Russia left WWI because of political turmoil,military failures, and economic struggles(History For Kids 2023) ~Russia lost war and struggled to stand up, the war brought a shortage of food and inflation which led to Russia withdrawing from war in 1918(History For Kids 2023)
    ~from Russia leaving the war it let Germany focus on the western front and also sparked the Russian civil war. Lenen led the withdrawal decision(History For Kids 2023)
  • Battle of Chateau-Thierry

     Battle of Chateau-Thierry
    ~the war started on July 15,1918, from the Germans striking to separate the British and French . They struck through a gap in between Chateau and the Argonne forest and the strike was initiated by Ludendorrf. (History on the Net, 2023).
    ~French general Henry Gourad prepared his army on July 7 and made a message called “Backs to the Wall”. (History on the Net, 2023).
  • Battle of Argonne

    Battle of Argonne
    The battle lasted from September 26-November 11, 1918. It was a battle on the Western front during WWI. The war occurred in France,Argonne, and the Meuse river and Ferdinand Foch,George Patton,John J.Pershing,Alvin York, and Hunter Liget were the main leaders in this battle.
    John J. initiated a surprise attack on march 5 near the meuse river in america the Germans made it to sedan and a armistice was made. (The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica, 2023).

    ~On november 11, 1918 an ceasefire occurred which stopped the fighting between Germany and the enemies, this did not completely end WW2 but it brought peace and eventually it ended the war(Sawyer n.d.).
    ~this occurred because the Germans fought the allies for territory but became burnt out and lost their supplies so they became weak and had to sign(Sawyer n.d.).
    ~the agreement forced Germans to give up planes,ships,and machine guns so that Germans couldn't regain advantage. (Sawyer n.d.).
  • The Treaty of Versailles signed

    The Treaty of Versailles signed
    On June 28, 1919 the Treaty of Versailles was signed in Paris,France and the purpose of the treaty was to end WWI. the treaty created peace between Germany and the allies but other places like Australia had to sign a different treaty. This treaty also forced Germany and other places to take the blame for WWI which resulted in Germany losing territories and a reduction in military and they even had to make payments to the allies.(National Geographic Society, 2023).
  • First meeting of the League of Nations

    First meeting of the League of Nations
    The League of Nations occurred on January 10, 1920 and on November 15, 1920 the first assembly occurred in Geneva, Switzerland (United Nations n.d.).
    ~The meeting was an organization that was open to self governing states or dominions or colonies. They partially succeeded and had 63 states in the organization but it didn't fully succeed as a universal organization also the U.S.A did not join this league. This organization ended on April 19, 1946 (United Nations n.d.)
