    At 4:45am on 1 september 1939 a German battleship opened fire on Poland from the sea.62 German Divisions supported by 1,300 airfracts began to invade Poland, Hitler was cnfident it would be short. Hitler was worried the invasion might start a war with the Soviet Union, 23rd August 1939, the USSR signed the Nazi-Soviet pact. At 8am September 1st poland assisted military assistance from Britain and France. On Septemember 3rd Britain declared war on Germany.

    Battle of the Atlantic.
    The battle of the Atlantic was German's aim to prevent ships from carrying food, raw materials, troops from North America to Britian, this would starve Britain out. On 3 Sepember 1939 Britain declared war on Germany after they sunk Athenia by a U-boat. Germany's u-boats were succesful enough to sink 3 million tons of allied ships.

    In 1939 Hitler broke the Treaty of Verseailles by entering German troops into the RhineLand. Germany invaded Czechoslavakia, Germany allied with Austria and invaded Poland.

    In May 1940, Hitler turned his attention to France, France had a stron defensive system, but Hitler just went around them, he invaded Holland, then Belgium , then France. This took less than two months, due to Hitler's tactic, called Blitskrieg. This happened so fast the French and British expeditionary force was caught by surprise. Germany managed to push the French defensice border all the way back to the small beach town of Dunkirk.

    Every British person who had a boat, sailed down to Dunkirk, to save the Soldiers, from the German invasion. The british moral was high as the boats came along to same the soldiers from Dunkirk.

    Mussolini wanted to re-build the Roman Empire, this caused a probalem because Parts of Africa were owned by Britain. Mussolini Invanded egypt which was part of the British empire, this left the Itaian army weak. Hitler sent a German General into eygypt to help Mussonlini get back land. British troops invaded Etheopia, this then meant the Italians were forced to surrender.

    The battle of Britain was when Hitler tried to invade Britain but was stopped by the RAF, some pilots had as little as 10 hours training. Hitler tried to get rid of the british airforce but failed.Germany had taken control over France, the French then surrendered leaving Britain to fight Germany alone. Hitler saw that Britian was week and planned to invade.This plan was called 'opperation sealion', to cross the channel succesfully, Hitler had to get rid of the RAF. Hitler sent the Luftwaffe.

    Hitler decided that after his failed plans to invade Britain to turn his atention to the USSR. Hitler wanted to use the USSR land for lebensraum. Hitler attacked the USSR in summer, because Germany were not prepared for Winter, by the time the Russains could retaliate it would already be Winter, by October Hitler has already conquered the Ukraine, and had already reached the outskirts of Moscow.

    Pearl Harbour was an American attack on Japan, in Oahu-Hawaii. Pearl Harbour was a surprise attack on the Japanese airforce on a Us NavalBase. After Pearl Harbour Britain allied with the US, the Us then imported ammunition into Britain, the battle of the Atlantic stopped this happeneing, there-fore they left Britain un-armed.

    France was conquered and ruled by Germany June 1940, It stayed that way for 4 years. Germany built an atlantic wall to stop an allied invasion, it's defence was gun batteries, observasion posts, bunkers and radar towers. Britain created fake armies, this was called Operation Fortitude, Britain dropped 200K tons of bombs this damaged Germanys ability to reinforce the beaches. D-day was deleyed because of bad weather on the channel, 5-6th June,75,000 British and Canadian troops landed in France.

    6 August 1995, an American Bomber dropped the world's first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Within minutes 70,000 people were dead, aand those still alive were in agony from severe burns. Hiroshima is still feeling it's affects from radiation. The american's dropped the bomb because they felt Japan would never surrender and the bomb cost alot of money and therefore wanted to use it.
