    American president passes FDR passes the lend-lease act. This allowed U.S. allies to borrow supplies (if they shipped them themselves) and they did not have to pay the U.S. back immediately.

    Germany invades the USSR. They called their plan by its code name "Barbarossa". This betrayed the German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact that Hitler and Stalin signed earlier.
