  • Assassination of the Archduke in Serbia

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated. Ferdinand's wife (Sophie) was also shot. They were shot dead by Gavrilo Princip in Sarajevo, Gavrilo was in a group of six assassins coordinated by Danilo llic. This attack lead to the outbreak of World War I, one month later.

  • Austria declared war on Serbia

    Austrian government blamed the Serbian government for the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and his wife and declared war on Serbia.
  • Germany declared war on France and Russia

    Germany declared war on Russia on August 1, 1914.
    Germany declared war on France on August 3,1914.
    German troops went into belgium as directed under the Schleiffen Plan.
  • Battle of Tannenberg

    Russia marched into Prussia. Germans would use the railway systems to surround the russian army. Russians won the battle, but 13,000 men were killed.
  • British declared war on Germany.

    Germany did not withdraw from Belgium and Britain declared war on Germany.
  • Winston Churchill

    He resigned his post as First Lord of the Admiralty. Became the battalion commander when he rejoined the army. He served in Belgium as lieutenant colonel.
  • Battle of Jutland

    Between German and British forces. The German ships did a great deal of damage to British ships. British losses were heavier than the German. At the end British maintained dominance of the North Sea.
  • Lloyd George

    New war commander. David Lloyd George. He was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom at the head of a wartime coalition government between the years 1916-1922. Also he was the leader of the liberal party.
  • America declares war on Germany

    The U.S. declares war on Germany in response to the sinking, by German boats, and America ships.
  • Kaiser Wilhelm II

    He was abdicted. Last German emperor and the King of Prussia. He ruled both the German empire and Prussia at the same time, through 1888 between 1918.
  • World War I ended

    At 11am in the morning, the armistice was signed bringing the war to an end, in Redonthes, france.
