    The goal of this meeting was to decide what to do about the war. There was talk of secession.When they marched into Washington they looked like unpatriotic crybabies because it was then the news of Jackson's victory came.

    Jackson and his troops defeated the over-confident British troops which was the largest battle of the war.

    Happened due to over-speculation of land. The results of this ere bankruptcies, unemployment, and deflation. The west was hit the hardest during this.
  • Land Act of 1820

    Land Act of 1820
    This came from the est wanting to expand. The act allowed buyers to buy 80 acres at $1.25 per acre as a minimum.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    This stated that Missouri would be admitted as a slave state and to balance the free states to slave states, Maine was admitted as a free state. It also stated that all new states north of the 36 degree 30 minute line would be free and those below would be slave.

    Told Europe that they could no longer colonize in the Americas and that they should stay out of American affairs. This was issued in response to Russia but applied to all Europeans.

    Robert FUlton employed Gibbons to pilot the boat along the Hudson River but infringed on the monopoly with New York by running his own boat. This is important because the Supreme Court shows that only Congress can regulate interstate trade.

    John C. Calhoun ceretly wrote this. It stated that the states like South Carolina could nullify the tariff of abominations. This directly challenged the federal government.
  • Battle of San Jacinto

    This was a turning point in the war. Santa Ana was caught without lookouts and taking a nap. Santa Ana was then forced to sign a document saying that Texas was independent.

    This was again a result of over-speculation of land. Also Jackson's specie circular hurt. Failure of crops added to this. The first domino as two major banks in England failing.
  • Aroostook War

    This was because of Britain wanting to build a road through Maine. It was also over the dipute of where the border of Maine was located.
  • Webster Ashburton Treaty

    Webster Ashburton Treaty
    This treaty ended the Aroostook War. Daniel Webster met with Lord Ashburton and it drew the line generally at the Aroostook River and split the difference of land. This also granted the land in Missouri that was later the Mesabi Range.

    The failure of this crop led to 2 million of the Irish dead and more coming to the Americas in hope of a better, new life.

    America finally annexed Texas after they were cincerned of their getting buddy-buddy with other nations. But through this America gained a lot of land and economic possibilities.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
    This ended the war with Mexico and led to America getting land including California. The U.S. paid only $15 million as opposed to the original $25 million they offered.
