    The new technology and air force was very helpful for fighting in the war but the technology was very unsafe and was not reliable.

    Francis Pegahmagabow
    Francis Pegahmagabow known as "Peggy" was one of the 4000 Aboriginals who served in the war. He participated in two major battles and was awarded three military medals.

    Peggy was a brave and courageous soldier who survived two major battles. He represented Canada and the First Nations very remarkably and played a big part in the war.

    Introducing the Income War Tax Act. and Victory Bond sales raised millions of dollars and funded the war. This took money away from citizens but doing so was crucial in funding the war.

    Lt. Col. Borden's Letter
    Lt. Col. Borden sent out a letter to every child in school encouraging them to ask their fathers and older brothers to enlist in the war.

    Within three weeks of this letter being sent out Borden had enough soldiers to create three more battalions. The letter also could have scared the children because he claimed the Germans were going to come to Nova Scotia and destroy their houses.

    Conscription was introduced by Prime Minister Borden in 1917 after the battle of Vimy Ridge killed so many soldiers.

    Conscription would help get enough soldiers to replace the fallen but, the idea of conscription caused tensions between the French-Canadians (who were against the idea becuase they believed it had nothing to do with them) and the English-Canadians who had relatives in the forces and felt the French-Canadians were not pulling their weight.

    With so many men away at war there were not enough people to work and the army needed more warfare to support them. Women in Canada had to start working to support their families and the armed forces.

    Some women were finally given rights like voting but women of colour still did not have any rights. Having the women work greatly helped production in factories and the economy but the conditions were not good and wages were unfair.

    World War 1 ended on November 11, 1918 after the United States entered the war and became a much needed ally.

    The Roaring Twenties were between 1920-1929 and happened after the war ended.

    The twenties showed great progress technology wise in Canada. The telephone and radio was invented. There were still some setbacks like the surplus in workers but overall it was a decade of progress.
