    The Louisiana purchase is the best land deal in us history. The Louisiana territory was purchased by Thomas Jefferson in 1803 from Frances leader Napoleon Bonaparte. The U.S. bought 828,000 square miles for 4 cents an acre. today the Louisiana purchase would cost 1.2 trillion dollars and makes up parts of 15 different states. Just think about it all Jefferson wanted was the city of New Orleans because it would make shipping down the Mississippi River easier, but we ended up with a larger U.S.

    the Corps of Discovery

    The Corps of Discovery is a expedition of 41 people only one of which was a girl. Their main tasks were to scout the land out west,make peace with local indians, and identify local plants and animals. Their expedition lasted for two years. The only women on the boat was a lady named sacagawea. She was a Native American who helped resolve tensions between the men and helped with Native American relations all throughout the expedition.

    The War of 1812 is also known as the revolutionary war part two. It was between the United States and Great Britain. It started as a fight between England and France and the U.S.stayed out of it, but when Britain started taking U.S. sailors and forcing them to be in the british navy. This got the U.S. into the war. This war was known as the war of poor communication because the most important battle happened after the war ended. The war ended in a stalemate but it brought us nationalism.

    The Gaining of the Florida Territory

    The invasion and gaining of Florida all started with the seminole indians. The seminole tribe had been raiding U.S. towns and taking slaves from the south. General andrew jackson was sent down to stop the indians,but while he was there he took over the spanish military forts and overthrew the government. After this happened the spanish royalty discussed negotiations for selling florida. They eventually sold it for $5,000,000 dollars to the U.S.. which is now present day Florida.

    The Monroe Doctrine is named after our 5th president James Monroe. The document states the no other foreign power not already in the americas can come over and colonize the land, but countries already on the americas would be left alone. This document was important to manifest destiny because it allowed the us a greater chance to gain land, and to expand the United States. If we didn't sign this who knows how many countries would be in North and South America. Thank You James Monroe.

    The Indian Removal Act and The Trail Of Tears

    The Indian Removal Act is a document signed by 7th president Andrew Jackson. This document kicked thousands of indians of their homelands and forced them to walk to Oklahoma to live on an indian reservation. The five main tribes were the Creek, The Cherokee, The Seminoles, The Chickasaw , and The Choctaw. The trail of tears was over two thousand miles long. The trail of tears lasted for over 9 years.

    At the beginning Texas was part of Spain, but when Mexico won its freedom it was Mexico's. Mexico started inviting americans to Texas to live there, but the texans weren't following the laws of the Mexican government. The biggest law being broken was slavery. The citizens of the U.S were bringing their slaves to Texas which was not okay with the Mexican government. after a while the americans wanted freedom from Mexico so they set up a military and battled at the Alamo. The Texans lost.

    however the Texans kept fighting for freedom. Now their battle cry was Remember the Alamo! Eventually Texas captured Mexican president and general Santa Anna. They ransomed him for freedom, Mexico gave in and gave Texas freedom. They became the Republic of Texas.The whole time Texas wanted to become apart of the U.S, but the U.S. had their doubts,but when the U.S elected James K. Polk he wasted no time bringing them in the the Union.

    the Mexican American war followed in the wake of the annexation of Texas. It gained the United States the southwest territory and the Mexican Cession. At the time Mexico thought Texas was still its land despite the Texas revolution. The Mexican American war lasted for years. The war also allowed the border of texas to be set at the rio grande. The treaty that ended the war was the treaty of Guadalupe hidalgo set the the borders of Texas and gave the U.S a lot more land than they had before.

Which means that we wanted the whole Oregon Territory not just the joint area they shared. James K. Polk was willing to go to war over the land. I think thats why he got the most land of any other U.S president. The whole Oregon Territory went from the 42nd parallel to the 54th parallel thats a lot of land.
