    During his junior year in highschool, his mother insist that he takes her to see a therapist at a rest home in Lakewood, New Jersey where she would later be emitted for 15 years before passing away.

    Ginsberg graduates from East Side Highschool, recalling his favorite memory being when his ELA teacher read aloud from Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself", claiming he coudl still remember the image of "her black-dressed bulk seated squat behind an English class desk, her embroidered collar, her voice powerful and high" (quoted in Schumacher, p. 17).

    During his freshman year, Ginsberg met Lucian Carr, who introduced him to who would later created the Beat Generation. This group of historical included Jack Kerouc and William S. Burroughs and later expanded to including Heroin addict Herbert Hunke, John Clellen Holmes, and Neal Cassady, who later became Ginsbergs lover.

    During his senior year at Columbia University, Ginsberg devoted his life to poetry after hearing William Blake recite the poem "Ah Sunflower" in a vision. Disatisfied with his poetry at the time he started expirementing with drugs to create an "exalted state of mind" as put in his own words. He believed that this helps his creative thoughts flow.

    At the end of his senior year, Ginsberg was arrested for storing goods stolen by Hunke and his friends. In substitution for jail time, Ginsberg's proffessors, Vandoren and Trilling, discussed with the Columbian Dean to put Ginsberg in a mental health institution, where he spent months and became goods freinds with a young writer by the name of Carl Solomon.

    In 1953 Ginsberg left New York and departed for Mexco. There he met his "lover" Peter Orlovsky.

    In August 1955, inspired by his trip to Mexico, Ginsberg wrote the poem "Howl for Carl Solomon" in a way saying that he was admiting his homoseualality and giving up on tryign to be 'straight'.

    In October 1955 Ginsberg read aloud from his poem howl for the first time at the six gallery reading, recieving a great number of applause and a chance to be published.

    In May 1956, "Howl and Other Poems" was published and was then seized. Upon seizing the book they arrested Ferlinghetti and Shigeyoshi Murao, and charged them for the publishment of an obscene and indecent book.

    In 1959, living off of Ginsberg's publishment money and Orlovsky's dissability checks, they moved to Tangier to stay with Burrough's and help him put together his novel, "Naked Lunch" published later that year.

    In 1962 Ginsberg and Orlovsky ambarked on his most important trip. They traveled to South America, Europe, Morocco, and India. While in India he met eith natives to learn a form of meditation to substitute for drugs. After the trip, on the train ride home he wrote the poem,"The Change, describing how he found that meditation is a better form of inspiration than drugs.
