  • French and Indian War

    Also known as the Seven Years War. Fought between the British and the French. Britain won.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty after the French and Indian War. France had to give up all of its territories in the New World.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Made by Parliament. Stated that the colonist could not settle west of the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Sugar Act

    Passed by British parliament to put tax on sugar and other goods to make up for money lost in the French and Indian War.
  • Stamp Act

    Passed by British parliament to put tax on stamps to make up for money lost in the French and Indian War.

    Parliament passed the Quartering Act, requiring that the colonies house British soldiers in barracks. These barracks were to be provided by the colonist.

    Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Mohawk Indians and dumped about 90,000 lbs of tea into Boston Harbour.

    Passed in response to the Boston Tea Party. These acts closed Boston Harbour, made British officials immune to prosecution in Massachusetts, restricted Massachusetts government, and made colonist house and quarter British troops.

    First attack of the Battles of Saratoga. The British attacked from Canada and won, but this costed them many men.

    Second attack from the British 18 days after first. The British had been greatly affected by the first attack, and lost the second and were forced to retreat. This battle is when the French recognized the colonies cause and agreed to join the war.
