    War fought between US and North Vietnam. Forrest joins the Vietnam War (1955-1975), one of the great wars of the 20th century. Many famous songs from that time were playing during the Vietnam scenes, like songs by CCR, Jimi Hendrix and The Doors.

    The southern states were slowly beating the segregation, and Forrest was there when George Wallace tried to stop a black couple from entering the University of Alabama. He later shows the event of the attempted murder towards Wallace that got him paralysed in 1972.

    Forrest is condecorated by Nixon for playing ping pong for the army. This condecoration grants him a stay at the Watergate complex, thus leading to Forrest watching the burglars breaking into it and calling security , thus leading to the Watergate Scandal, which resulted in Nixon resigning on 1974. During that part of the movie, famous songs from that time start playing again, like Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Raindrops by BJ Thomas.
