  • Battle of Alamance

  • Boston Tea Party

    The Sons of Liberty, dressed as Indians, dumped hundreds of chests of tea into Boston harbor to protest the Tea Act of 1773.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    The first shots fired in the Revolutionary War near Boston, MA; approx. 100 minutemen and 250 British soldiers were killed.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    First major battle of the Revolutionary War; it actually took place at nearby Breed's Hill, MA.
  • Declaration of Independence

  • Battle of Saratoga

    Major defeat of British general John Burgoyne and more than 5,000 British troops at Saratoga, NY.
  • Battle of King's Mountain

    Upcountry South Carolina irregulars defeated British troops under Patrick Ferguson in what proved to be the turning point of the Revolutionary War in the South.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Last battle of the Revolutionary War; General Lord Charles Cornwallis along with over 7,000 troops surrendered at Yorktown, Virginia.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The treaty ending the Revolutionary War and recognizing American independence from Britain and established the border between Canada and the United States. It also ceded Florida to Spain.
  • Constitutional Convention

    Meeting in Philadelphia, PA of representatives from twelve colonies to revise the existing Articles of Confederation.
  • Constitutional Convention (ends)

    The Constitution Convention ends with the signing of the new U.S Constiitution!

  • Louisiana Purchase

    President Thomas Jefferson's purchase from France's Napoleon Bonaparte was the important port of New Orleans and 828,000 square miles west of the Mississippi River. It doubled the U.S territory and it only costed $15 million dollars.

  • Battle of Tippecanoe

    Indiana governor William Henry Harrisondefeated the Shawnee Indians at the Tippecanoe River in Northern Indiana.

  • War of 1812

    Fought with Britain over lingering conflicts that included impressment of American sailors, interference with shipping and collision with Northwest Territory Indians.

  • Hartford Convention

    Meeting of New England Federalists to protest the War of 1812; proposed seven constitutional amendments, but the war ended before Congress could respond.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    A Treaty signed by the British and the Americans in Ghent, Belgium. It supposedly ended the fighting and restores previous boundaries.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Last battle of the War of 1812, weeks after the peace treaty was signed but prior to its ratification. Andrew Jackson led the victorious American troops

    19th state of the U.S! Indiana Territory, formed from the Northwest Territory
  • James Monroe

  • Alabama

    22nd state of the U.S! Alabama Territory, formed from the Mississippi Territory, formerly part of the State of Georgia.
  • Maine

  • Missouri Compromise

    Deal proposed by Kentucky senator Henry Clay to resolve the slave/free imbalance in Congress that would result from Missouri's admission as a slave state. With Maine's admission as a free state it prohibited slavery north of the southern border of Missouri.
