    The Industrial Revolution of Great Britain 1760s
    The Industrial Revolution was a time period in which many European Countries began using steam powered machinery and mass production methods to greatly effect the social and economic world that they had lived in. Workers performed in dangerous, unsanitary and back breaking conditions that often lasted 12 hours or longer. On average people were paid $8-$10 a week. Underpaid and exploited workers resorted to criminal activity, such as stealing and pick-pocketing in order to Survive.

    Captain Cook first discovered the east coast of Australia during the early 1770's and claimed it under the law of Terra Nullius, meaning that it was no mans land, therefore it was theirs for the taking. Captain Cook declared the east coast of Australia to be New South Wales.

    After the end of The American Revolution in 1783, Britain was forced to give up their Penal Colonies (a settlement in which prisoners were exiled to) to the U.S. Sending their Prisoners there was out of the question.

    Britain first sent their fleet to Australia in 1787. The journey lasted 250 days and roughly 100 passengers died within the ship. 11 ships were sent to the east coast of the island which was known as New South Wales at the time. Upon arriving the first fleet carried 767 men passengers and 228 women.

    Much like the U.S., Native Tribes inhabited the island of New Holland. The Native Tribes that lived there, were known as the Indigenous People. The Indigenous People hunted animals, gathered fruits and vegetables, and much like the U.S. Natives, fought when the Europeans came to claim their land. But again lost due to their lack of resources and technology.

    Throughout the 1800's the people who were once known as convicts began working hard to pay off their debts, and eventually became free men. By the early 1840's the majority of Australia were freed of their sentence, and denied the entry of incoming prisoners to the East Coast.

    Gold was first discovered in 1851 by a prospector known as Edward Hargraves. Soon after the discovery gold, people from all over Europe began traveling to Australia in hopes of finding gold. With the gold that was found, wealth and population continued to increase, as new settlers migrated and mined in Australia.

    A United Nation
    Australia was divided among six separate colonies. This included the Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia, and Victoria. By 1901 the six colonies of Australia integrated as one and became a United Nation.
