    Edward R. Murrow was born in Polecat Creek, NC. He was one of three sons. He moved moved to Washington State when he was six years old, and lived in a tent.     He was hired in 1935 by CBS to be it's Director of talks. Two years later he moved to London, England to become the head of their operations there.     In 1953, another show hosted by Edward was aired, "Person to Person". This show involved interviewing famous people for around 15 minutes in their homes. He would typically interview two people a week. They would avoid politics or deeply personal questions. However, the show eventually recieved criticism for looking into private lives for profit.     Murrow was awarded the Medal of Freedom by president Lyndon B. Johnson. This is the highest civilian honor a president can give. The president said he was a "gallant fighter" who had " dedicated his life as a newsman and as a public official to the unrelenting search for truth."
