Improved Microscope
An English Physicist, Robert Hooke invented an incredibly improved version of the microscope, which resembled a small, handheld, eyeglass.

The First Observation of Cells
Hooke observed the structures of snowflakes, fleas, lice, and plants, the first to see cell walls in dead tissue. He named small holes in the cork ‘cells’ from their similarity to the cells in which monks lived in.

A Sight of Living Cells
A Dutch microscopist, Anthony van Leeuwenhoek, saw the first living cells when he brought his improved version of a microscope to a pond to observe cells.

Discoveries of Single-Cell Organisms
Leeuwenhoek published his observations of single-cell organisms. He was likely the first to see a red blood cell and sperm cell, discovering the reproduction of humans in terms of the sperm and egg cell.

The Nuclei of Plant Cells
An English botanist, Robert Brown, gave the name of nuclei in plant cells. He was the first to give an accurate description of nucleolus in 1835.

The First Contribution to the Cell Theory
Matthias Jakob Schleiden suggested that every structural part of a plant was made of cells, and that the cells were created either inside or outside the cell through crystallisation.

Animal Cell Conclusion
Scientist Theodor Schwann stated that both plants and animals had cells. This was a major advancement in the community, for little was known of animal structures.

The Third Cell Theory Discovery
Rudolf Virchow added the third statement in the cell theory. It is suggested that he plagiarised another scientist at the time, Robert Remak.
