    President McKinely Assasinated- Theodore Roosevelt becomes President
    While shaking hands with the public President Mckinley was shot by Leon Czolgosz, an anarchist. Mckinely became the 3rd President to be assasinated. Theodore Roosvelt, Vice-President at the time, took over office. Due to Mckinley's assasination it pushed Congress to pass legislation to officially charge the Secret Service with the responsibility of protecting the President.

    16th & 17th Amendments Passed/Federal Reserve Act Passed
    16th Amendment allowed Congress to levy an income tax without apportioning it among the states or basing it on the United States Census. 17th Amendment helped to structure the Senate, including 2 Senators from each state, elected by the people, each serves 6 years and has one vote. Federal Reserve Act crated by Congress established the Federal Reserve System, centralized banking and allowed for the issuance of the Federal Reserve Notes (now known as the US Dollar)

    Henry Ford Installs First Moving Assembly Line
    On December 1st 1913 Henry Ford installed the first moving assembly line. This greatly reduced the time it took to build the popular Model-T automobile that had been introduced in 1908. Henry Ford's innovation took the time it took to build a car from more than 12 hours to two hours and 30 minutes.

    World War 1 Begins- Panama Canal Opens
    World War 1 begins with the assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. United States doesn't enter World War 1 for another 3 years.
    On August 15, 1914 Panama Canal opens. Panama Canal connects the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean greatly reducing the time it takes for ships to to travel between the two oceans. This canal also allows them to avoid the very dangerous tip of South America.

    Congress Waives Immigration Requirements

    In 1917 Congress waived immigration requirements for all agricultural workers and in 1918 wavies the same for workers on railroads, in mines, and on government construction projects. This caused a huge influx of Mexican Immigrants. Between 1917 and 1920 some 50,000 Mexicans legally crossed the border with another 100,000 crossing illegally.

    America Enters World War 1
    After nearly 2 and a half years by President Woodrow Wilson to keep the United States neutral during World War 1. Once Germany started targeting all ships headed towards Britain the United States knew it would almost certainly mean they would need to enter the war. Congress declared war on Germany on April 6th, 1917.

    18th Amendment Enacted
    18th Amendment affectively established the prohibition of alcoholic beverages in the United States by making the production, transport, and sale of alcohol illegal. It could still be used for religious and medical purposes. For 13 years prohibition would be in affect until the passing of the 21st Amendment which repealed the 18th Amendment.

    Passed on June 4th of 1919 the 19th Amendment gurantees all American women the right to vote.

    The Great Crash began on Thursday October 24th,1929 (Black Thursday) and was the most devastating stock market crash in history. The effects of the this crash were felt for the next 10 years as the country endured the Great Depression.
