    Construction on Chernobyl Begins
This is one of the most important events because it marks the point of no return. In order for Chernobyl's disaster to have occurred it was essential that the plant was built. Once this plant was built it marked as a turning point, from the day it opened forward Russia became responsible for a nuclear power plant.
  • Partial Core Meltdown

    Partial Core Meltdown
In 1982 there was a partial core meltdown in reactor 1. This incident was not released to the public until 1985. The Chernobyl team repaired the reactor and had it operating in months. This just proves how easy and sensitive the plant was, this event provides a shade of foreshadowing.
  • Reactor 4 is completed

    Reactor 4 is completed
In December 1983 the 4th and final reactor is completed. This made Chernobyl one of the largest plants of its time. This fourth reactor also raised the amount of work that needed to be done by 25%... further raising the risk of human error and mistakes.

    Chernobyl Disaster
A routine test in the Chernobyl power plant went horribly wrong when there was an explosion in one of the 4 reactors on sight. 2 people were killed that night and 28 more of radiation poisoning in the next week. This explosion resulted in a complete meltdown of one of the reactors, releasing all of its radiation into the atmosphere.

    Effects of Meltdown are seen
Early Monday morning during a routine check at the Forsmark Nuclear plant in Sweden over 1,000km away from chernobyl, they found that there had been a massive surge in radiation and that even the soles of their shoes were radioactive. Sweden then warned Europe and potentially saved the lives of many. This is an example of how much radiation was released.
