    Nathaniel Hawthorne is considered the first American Author for a book intended for children. Most books were coming from England.
  • 20th century- increase in production

    20th century- increase in production
    Child labor laws were passed and many more children attended school. This led to an increase in book productions. By the 1920's modern picture books were being developed.
  • 21st century - diversity

    21st century - diversity
    Currently more diversity is being sought and wrote about. Internationally, books are being translated, characters have different sexual orientations and gender roles.
