    Mao lead the march to invade Kuomintang, where the Chinese Nationalist Party was. Another purpose was to spread the word of his movement to gain more followers.

    Mao took control by promoting "land reform", which was where he would give poor people land from the other people.

    The Great Leap Forward

    Mao took control over all of the farmland so that there wasn't any private ownership for agriculture and industry. This was known as the Great Leap Forward. It soon failed after China went through a period of famine due to a series of crop failures.     The Cultural Revolution

    After Mao heard that some people in China think that private ownership wasn't a bad idea, Mao was not happy. He saw that his classless system was slipping away so he decided to start the Cultural Revolution. Mao closed all schools and collected all intellectuals. He created the Red Army out of children, which had to make war on anything that looked like it was encouraging class differences. They also had to kill people if they decided or were forced to, no matter who it was. dates
  • Tiananmen Square

    Tiananmen Square
    Students started to protest because of communist government sieges. In Tienanmen Square, over 10,000 high school students would go there to protest. The government wanted to put an end to it, resulting in weapons being used. Shots were fired and many students were arrested. This was a tragic day in Beijing, so the government erased every trace of information about the incident. Chinese people can't mention June 4th in fear of getting into big trouble.
