  • Model T

    Model T
    Model T was an assembly line where each worker does one specialized task. This method was very efficient, a Model T was finished every twenty-four seconds. There were fifteen million cars finished between 1908 and 1917.
  • The Great Migration

    The Great Migration
    More than 6 million African Americans had to leave their homes in the rural South, to be relocated to the busy cities of the North. This migration lasted from 1916 to 1970.
  • Prohbition

    Prohbition
    The 18th Amendment made it illegal to sell or buy any type of intoxicationg beverage. It was very difficult to enforce and people even rioted against it. In 1933, congress apealed the 18th amendment making it legal again to drink.
  • Flappers

    Flappers
    Flappers were young Western women in the 1920s who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to jazz, and flaunted their disdain for what was then considered acceptable behavior.
  • Growth of Movies

    In the 1920s there were roughly 5000 to 22500 theatres, it became the fourth largest business in America. They also had the very first "talkie" when it came to the movies actually having audio. The Jazz Age ended when the Great Depression started.
  • Red Scare (Cold War)

    Following WWII, the US and the Soviet Union got involved in a series of large political and economic clashes which was known as the Cold War. As the war heated up, the US leaders decided to take action and on March 21, 1947 Presdient Truman issued and Executive Order.

    Nativism in the 1920s was when you would favor native - born American's over immigrants. This began to create laws to restrict immigration.
  • Dawes Plan

    Dawes Plan
    The Dawes Plan was made to help Germany pay off debts and to return nativism. The Dawes Plan got its name from the guy who was head of the committee, Charles Dawes.
  • The KKK

    The KKK
    An organized terrist organization who would go after african americans, asians, hispanics, new immigrants, etc; and enjoyed killing (linching most of the time) the other races. Rebirth of the KKK had about 4-5 million members, but by 1928 they had lost a good hundred thousand members.
  • Growth of the Radio

    During this period of time, the radio took off like no other. People were fascinated about it, and a whopping 100 million were sold just alone in 1927.
  • Jazz Age

    Jazz Age
    The Jazz Age is when young people actually started using cars, it gave them the freedom to go and do what they please. During this time radios were highly loved, and the young ones loved how free they felt on the dance floor.
  • Dow Jones Average

    Dow Jones Average is when you take the average of all the stock prices. During Hoover's first year, it had risen from $191 to $381.
  • Stock Market

    Stock Market
    The stock market is where you can buy stock (a share) of a certain company. These shares are then shared on the stock market. You want the company to grow and prosper, so that your share goes up in value. The stock market collapsed in 1929.
  • Black Tuesday

    Black Tuesday
    Black Tuesday usually got about 4 to 8 million shares that were sold a day. On this Tuesday, 16.4 million shares are sold. Shortly after the stock market collapsed and $30 billion dollars in investment was lost in the stock market.
  • Amelia Earhart

    First woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean, first person in general to fly from Hawaii to California. She disappeared attempting to fly around the world.
