    Davis was the former U.S. senator from Mississippi. In Montgomery, Alabama he was inaugurated CSA president.
  • Cival War starts

    The Civil War starts at Fort Sumter at 4:30 a.m. on April 12, 1861. The Confederates win the first battle of the Civil War.
  • Robert E. Lee

  • Richmond, Virginia, becomes new CSA capital

    Richmond, Virginia is only 150 miles away from Washington so it's easier to capture it because it's closer to them so they can stop the war. Also to keep support from Virginia during the war.
  • The North issues the first income tax in history

    The South won the Battle of Wilson Creek, but changes nothing in Missouri.

  • Battle between two ironclad ships

    The two ironclad ships were the Confederate's Merrimac and the Union's Monitor. The battle ends in a draw.
  • Grant wins Battle at Shiloh

    Image CreditIn Ceantral Tennessee a battle was fought called the Battle of Shiloh. This battle was one of the most bloodiest battles in U.S. history. With a high cost of men the Union ended up winning this battle.
  • Seven Days Battle

    North loses this battle and Lee now can seize momentum. McClellan, the North's General, had his army retreated to the James River even though they had a large number of men.
  • Confederates win Second Battle at Bull Run

    The South won the Battle at Bull Run for a second time. Lee's plan to invade the North is now more likely to happen now that they won this battle.
  • North wins battle at Antietam

    The Union wins its first major battle at Antietam. The South would call it the battle at Sharpsburg. The South retreated back into Virginia. Now Lincoln could use this win for diplomatic advantages.

  • Lee wins Pyrrhic victory at Chancellorsville

    The South won the battle at Chancellorsville but with a huge price. General Stonewall Jackson. Lee's right hand, was accidentally shot by another Confederate. He didn't die until eight days later of pneumonia.
  • Union wins at Gettysberg

    Image CreditAt Gettysberg, in Pennsylvania, Lee retreats which results in Union victory. Lee's plan of invading the North was stopped again.
  • Victory at Chickamauga goes to the Confederates

    Image Credit The Confederates won the battle at Chickamauga. This victory was greatly needed for the South after losing a few key battles at Vicksburg and Gettysburg.
  • Lincoln gives address at Gettysburg

    Image Credit President Lincoln gave an address in Gettysburg that was devoted to a military cemetary for the men that died in the three-day battle. The speech lasted two minutes with 272 words.
  • Union wins Chattanooga

    Image Credit The Union won Chattanooga that gained them the control of an important southern city. Now the North can easily move into Alabama and Georgia and continue to split the South.

  • The Wilderness battle

    Image CreditImage Credit In the battle of The Wilderness many woods caught on fire which incinerated many men that were dead, wounded, and those who were still alive with no injures. The South won The Wilderness battle resulting in both the North and the South to endure many of their men lives that were lost.

  • Confederate's draft expanded

    Image Credit The South has expanded their draft law between the ages of 17-50 to serve in the military. Their were men who weren't allowed to serve in the miliary are those who were mentally disabled and those who were a felon.
  • Farragut captures key port of Mobile Bay

    Image Credit Admiral David Farragut showed the Union's intelligence at sea to get voters to vote for Lincoln in the November' election. This victory gets the Union nearer to Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Sherman's troops begin march through Georgia

    Image Credit General William T. Sherman, for the North, starts his march through Georgia, with his troops, that left Atlanta in flames. Then many strong forces were ordered to raze property and destroy everthing that could help the South to keep fighting in the war. Now the focus was to split the South again.

  • President Lincoln tours Rebel capital

    Lincoln toured the Confederate capital after Jefferson Davis had left the capital. Then Lincoln tour ed Davis's house and city after Lee and his armies departed west of the capital.
  • Saylor's Creek last battle?

    Image Credit The battle at Saylor's Creek that only lasted only one day resulted in a Unoin victory. About 8,000, one-third, of Lee's Confederate troops surrendered. This was a sign that the war was coming to a near end.
  • Lee surrenders to Grant

    Image Credit On Palm Sunday in the home of Wilmer McLean at Appottamox Court House Lee finally surrendered after a three-hour meeting. With the surrender comes its terms that the South must hand over their supplies and weapons but can keep their weapons and private horses. The only thing that Lee did not surrender was his sword.
  • President Lincoln Assasinated

    President Lincoln was assanated by John Wilkes Booth in Ford's Theater at 10:20 p.m. Lincoln was shot in the head while he was watching a play called "Our American Cousins" in a special box above the stage.
  • Lincoln dies from Assassination
