Standing guard

He thought they were going to cross the river again but that idea got countermanded until the next day. Also he made a bet with one of his friends, that they would be home in less than a year from Saturday. -

New camp
Learn about camp lifeEdwin is suffering with a severe headache and cannot get any better. The weather is blistering cold but nevertheless Edwin goes on gaurd. He also moved into his new camp and started getting wood for the huts immediately. -
Corporal
Learn about what Corporals doEdwin stands guard as Corporal, for his first time. His orders were to stay in readiness to march at any moment's notice. Four hundred more prisoners were also brought in. He was also was inspected, this guy had been very particular this time. -
On Picket
Learn about picket dutyEdwin was on guard this morning. He was ordered to leave everything behind except a change of overcoats and rubber boots and food for eight days. He was also ordered to be ready at five o’clock. As the weather continued to get worst they had to push on through knee deep water. -
Captured
Learn about prison lifeThe weather is nice, and it was reported that 700 or 800 of our cavalry was captured by the rebels. The next day it was reported that we did not lose 700 or 800 of our prisoners, we actually captured rebels. -
Exhaustion
Learn about what soldiers would doToday he got a new captain because his other one was very ill. Weather has been very nice. He has not been more tired and exhausted before and was signed for more duty rolls. Once again he was told to be ready for march. -
Marching
Learn about the songs they would sing while marching They were released from picket and were ordered to grab everything and start marching. Since they didn't get a break, many were very tired, by dark they had only two more miles left, yet that ended up being six instead. -

More about the Battle of AntietamWhile marching they passed over the Antietam battlefield through Sharpsburg. They stopped for dinner in the field, as you looked around you could see the very slightley burried body's. The weather was nice but very hot and many men gave out. -

Learn about how mail got aroundEveryones mail came into today. He got two letter but neither were from home, this made him disapointed. It was a very chill day with nice weather. He is suffering with a bad cold again. -
Travel
How they got aroundEdwin was ordered for color gaurd, then was ordered back to his com. But after that confusion, he was then called back. He then traveled from Jersey City, Newark, New Brunswick, Pricetown, Elizabeth City, Trenton, and Camden. -
More travel
Learn about travelingEdwin starts his Friday off by going to Washington. On Saturday he gets his pay and travels to Baltimore. Sunday comes around and he is still traveling and is in Pittsburg before daylight. Monday is completely all tavel and should soon get to Inianoplis sometime tommorow. And Tuesday he uses his time in Munci to see his aunt. -
