Lee had about 40,000 troops, and Mclellan had over 75,000. The next day the battered Confederates retreated back to Virginia. The impact of this battle became the bloodiest day of the Civil War.

    Battle of Fredericksburg Burnside was now the new General, and his strategy was too cross directly in front of Lee forces thinking that they would not expect that. Lee let them cross knowing his area would be well covered. The Union suffered 13,000 casulaties, while the Confederate forces lost about 5,000. The impact of his plan did not go well.

It had little impact on slavery because it applied to places that were under the confederate control. The Union got lucky once because of the dark. On May 5, Hookers beaten troops surrendered. This was one of Lees most biggest brilliant victories and also most costly one of the Civil war.
