    In my family, we cherish and honor one another. Growing up, my mom could not speak English well so that forced me to speak spanish, but I did not like to speak Spanish, because all of my American friends spoke English nothing more. My mom's dream as a child was to come to America and live the "American Dream", she simply wanted a family, kids and husband. She wanted my brother and I to grauduate from high school and go to college. I learned early on that our dreams were different.

    As a baby, I was baptized, but whenever I was 8 years old, I did my first communion. My mom did not force us to attend church every Sunday, but she did want us to attend our first communion. At a young age, I was taught that God was the creator of life and that by faith we will have blessings.

    In my cultral you must speak to everyone in the room when you walk in and you must speak to everyone once you leave the room. If it is someone older, you say "bendicion" (blessings) and in return the older person response with "Dos Bengia" (God Bless you), you say this once you enter and once you exit, as well as giving that person a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

    Martin L. King is someone I have always admire, he has become one the most historical and influential people today. The "I have a dream" Speech gives me chills every time I hear it, because the fact that back then people were not allow to do the same things based on their skin color, is mind blowing. We should not treat people differently because of their skin ton, everyone has a heart internally.

    Food is where the Heart is...
    Anytime we have gatherings, Christmas, birthday's, baby showers, holidays, we celebrate with food. Food is the center of our family to bring loved one close. We offer food to anyone that comes over as well cook for them if they are really hungry.

    Christmas and New Years Eve is a big event for us. We dress up every year to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. Majority of the time we do not go anywhere, because we host a Christmas and New Years Eve Party for all of our immediate friends and family to enjoy.

    Good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain
    Music is big in my culture. We adore the tropical sounds given with unforgettable music artist like Marc Anthony and La India. Those iconic Spanish stars give me chills when I hear their voices singing along with the trumpet. My child has his own set of drums and is currently dancing to any instrumental music provided.

    Curly hair don't care
    As a young girl I struggled with the acceptance of having curly hair. I wanted fine thin hair, but as I got older my husband appreciated my curls and I became more accepting to my curls. My best friend has also helped me with accepting the curls wearing them freely and naturally.
  • Family Distance

    My step-father and mom met in the early 1990's, the one thing out of many they have in common is their family distance. They both have their entire family living on the east cost. My mom's family lives in the City of New York and my step-father's family lives in Connecticut. They are both the oldest siblings, so I believe they wanted to "get away".

    Throughout three generations we have been taught to be thankful for eveyrthing you have. Never take anything for granted as well as appericate everything you have. My mom grew up in a 3rd world country and did not have the things I had as a child or she currently has. I will teach my son the same and to be foever grateful
