    Rome

    Rome
    Rome was not democratic, but it was republic which is quite similar to a democratic society. They created a senate and voted on their leaders. Rome was declared republic in year 509 BCE

    Ancient Greece

    Ancient Greece
    Greece was the first culture to have a democracy in 700-350 BCE. Their system had three branches, which is similar to how Canada runs their government now. Only citizens were allowed to vote, and the 'citizens' must fit a certain criteria.

    Magna Carta
    In the year 1215, King John was forced to sign the Magna Carta. The magna Carta ensures the safety of the citizens from being overpowered by monarchy. The king was also restricted from rights.

  • American Revolution

    American Revolution
    The American Revolution created the first true democracy. This allowed Americans to vote, and all branches of the government had equal power. Women in the U.S.A could not vote until 1919.

  • French Revolution

    This revolution rooted in the spirit of democracy. This is when the middle class french citizens tried to overrule their monarchy. The monarchy was sent to the guillotine, and the new ruler became Napoleon, who tried to overthrow all of Europe.

    In 1848, Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto, which outlined communism. Communism is the equality of everybody, which allows land to be publicly owned, and everybody makes the same earning. Communism only works in certain societies.

    Fascism
    Facism is seperate from the government. In the 1920's, Hitler hated the jews and all communists and killed 55 million people, as well as lead a nation of Nazis. Hilter lead WWII. Fascism does not allow free thinking.

    After a short period of democracy, Japan moved into nationalism. Japan felt that the laws nearby were unfair, to which they became agressive and known as a military state. The Japan leader lead their state into WWII

  • United Nations

    In 1948, the United Nations declared the freedom of Human Rights. They pledged the fact that everybody should be able to live without abuse from the government
