Zacharias Janssen
Hans and Zacharias Janssen, Dutch spectacle makers, are thought to be the inventers of the first microscope. They created the microscope by putting two lenses in a cylinder. This invention was later used to veiw cells. The picture and the website-

Robert Hooke
Robert Hooke was studying a peice of cork and he find tiny little pores. THey reminded him of the cells in a monastery. The name' cells, stuck. He published his findings in Micrographia.
