    The 1st permanent school for deaf opens. (The Connecticut Asylum at Hartford for the Instruction of Dumb Persons) Founded by, Gallaudet, he later opened Gallaudet University.

    The 1st public high school opens. (Bostobn English High School)

    Hartford Female Seminary, a private school for girls was founded.
  • 1827

    Massachusetts passed a law that requires towns of more than 500 families to have a public high school open to all families.
  • 1837

    The African Institute opened Cheyney University, a higher learning for African Americans.
  • 1852

    Massachusetts enacts the first attendance law.

    The 1st kindergarten in the U.S is started in Watertown, Wisconsin.
  • 1889

    Jane Adamd snd her college friend opened Hull House, a place that offered educational services to European immigrants.

    Stanford University is founded.
