    Albany plan of Union
    The Albany plan of union was the first formal plan to unite all 13 colonies together as one.

    American Colonist wanted to move west but the French did not want that. Great Britain and and the French went to war over the colonist settling west of the Appalachian mountains. France lost and was forced to give up almost all of their land.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    Treaty of Paris forced France to give up nearly all of their land. Also. this ended the French and Indian War.
  • Proclamation

    Proclamation
    Reserved land west of the Appalachian Mountains, signed by Great Britian to avoid further conflict with the natives. The colonist were upset about it but they know that they couldn't stop them.
  • Sugar Act

    Parliament put a tax on sugar and molasses to help pay back the war debt from the French and Indian war. This was hard the the Northern Colonies especially because that's their biggest industry.

    Great Britian was still in debt from the French and Indian war so they put crazy amount of taxes on the colonist. This eventually became violent.

    Law passed by Parliament stating that colonist had to house, feed, and water British Soldiers.

    Delegates mat in New York City to discuss Stamp Act. They said that Parliament could not tax the colonist because they did not have representation of Parliament.

    Parliament repealed stamp act, Declared it it had to rule and tax colonist.

    Townshend Acts
    Parliament taxed goods such as lead, paper,glass, and tea from England. "Writs of assistance" also allowed officers to go into colonial homes without notice and search for smuggled goods. The tax money would be used to pay off debt from the french and Indian war, still. The colonist were very upset at this, this caused the Boston Tea Party.

    Angry colonist were protesting during the night.
    British Soldiers warned them to back off.
    The British Fired into the crowd killing 5 colonist.

    The Sons of Liberty, lead by Samuel Adams was responsible.
    -The Sons of Liberty dressed as Native Americans
    -They dumped millions of dollars worth of tea into the Boston Harbor.
    The British Responded by the Intolerable Acts.

    The intolerable acts was meant to punish the Colonist for the Boston Tea party.
    This pushed the Colonist further to declaring war.

  • First Continentail Congress

    First Continentail Congress
    12 out of the 13 colonies sent delegates to Carpenters Hall, Philadelphia. Georgia is the only one who did not. Patrick Henry, George Washington, John Adams, and John Jay were there also. They met to talk about the Intolerable Acts. They decided to send a letter to King George warning him to back off.

    At this meeting they made a Continental Army led by George Washington. Also, they wrote the declaration of the causes and necessity of taking up arms. They sent the Olive Branch Petition to King George as the last attempt at peace. Later on we found out that King George never received that part.

    Redcoats stormed Bunkerhill 3 times but forced to retreat. British won but at the same time they gave colonist confidence that they could really win this war.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord.

    Battle of Lexington and Concord.
    There was a rumor that the Colonist were stockpiling weapons in concord. Paul Revere rode through and warned everyone that the british was coming. So the colonist of concord hid the weapons. Once the red coats got there they found 70 minute men waiting to fight, and no weapons. This battle was considered the "shot herd around the world." Both many Loyalist and Patriots died during this battle. The significance of this battle is that it is considered to be the first shot of the Revolutionary War.

    The Stamp Act was a law passed by parliament saying that an official government stamp must be on all paper documents. This was the first direct tax on the colonist. The Sons of Liberty killed several of the Stamp Act officers and hung them in the town. The colonist sent a letter to Great Britain and said that they were getting tired of British taxing them and so Parliament established the Stamp Act Resolves.
