Events leading to the Revolutionary War

  • Albany Congress

    The British were expecting a war to break out soon so to prepare for this they offered a alliance with the Iroquois to fight the French.
    The meeting for this took place in Albany New York.
    But the Iroquois rejected because of they thought the British would lose.

    French and Indian War

    French and Native Americans vs. British, colonist, and Iroqouis fought for control over the Ohio River Valley and North America.The British win the war. France lost their entire empire in North America.
  • Treaty of Paris

    British and France after the war signed The Treaty of Paris. It had been signed in Paris.
    France lost almost all of its land while Britain gained it. Like, French Canada, all east of the Mississippi, and New Orleans
    The Native Americans also lost a lot of land, their last hope to stop the British was the French but, they were defeated.
  • Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act's purpose was to save money. To do this colonist had to house the British solders. That included feeding them and supplying them with other needs. Again the colonist protested furiously.

    Pontiac's War

    After the war the colonist wanted to move west of the Appalachian Mountains to live there. They didn't know that people already lived their, Native Americans. So to defend them selves the Indians killed 2,000 settlers and destroyed nearly half a dozen. By the end the British finally beat Pontiac's force.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    After what happened to the Native Americans the British decided to make a proclamation that said for the colonist not to move west of the Appalachian Mountains. The colonist move west any way and the British can do nothing.
  • Sugar Act

    After the French and Indian war the British need money to pay back the troops. So they decide to raise taxes on certain objects like,sugar and molasses, but this also false because the colonist just smuggled.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act required that any paper had to have a stamp om it, like newspapers, wills, licenses, insurance, policies, and so on.There were many speeches and out breaks about this but a emotional one was by Patrick Henry. In New York, Boston, and Philadelphia they had organized a boycott, not long after that they had one again.
  • Boston Massacre

    The British only left one tax on a item, that was tea. On March 5 1770 there was a break out, at Boston angry workers threw snowballs and rocks at soldiers. So the soldiers shot there guns killing 5 and wounding 6. To calm things down Governor Thomas Huthinson attempted to arrest the nine soldiers.
  • Tea Act

    The tea act lowered the price of tea but you can only get one kind, East Indies Company. Many people went out of business because they made tea. The colonist acted by smuggling.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Because of the tea act the colonist called in the Sons of Liberty, a group of people against the British. There job this time was to destroy a lot of tea. So they snuck on a boat and threw millions of dollars of tea into the Boston Harber. The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Native Americans.
  • First Continental Congress

    It took place in Philadelphia 12 of the 13 colonies had delegates, Georgia didn't go. The people were George Washington, John Adams, John Jay, and Patrick Henry. They wanted to repeal the Intolerable Acts, and declared the colonist had a right to there own taxes. They wanted to boycott for a good amount of time too.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The British heard about the colonist hiding the arms in colonies so they went to get them but Paul Revere got there first and told the people of Lexington to be ready. 77 minute men were ready and armed for the red coats, but they were to untrained and they won. As the British were reaching Concord they were to late, there were 400 minutemen fought the and chased them back to Boston. Almost 300 red coats had been killed or wounded.
  • The Second Continetal Congress

    Because the British didn't meet there needs, the colonist called the second continental meeting. They had three agreements, George Washington to be the general, to organize an army, and last they printed paper money. The meeting took place in Philidelphia.
  • Battle of Fort Ticonderoga

    The army knew they need heavy weapons, and they knew Fort Ticonderoga had cannons. So 83 Americans, at night, were lead to New York to face 42 British solders, they won and recived several dozen cannons.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill and Breads Hill

    The American solders were hardly solders, they were all workers and farmers. They were surrounding Boston ready to stand against British troops. The British General decided to attack right up Breeds Hill, but the Americans were short on ammo so they said to wait until they were 150ft away to fire. The British failed the first and second attack but won the third because the Americans ran out of ammo. The British lost 1,000, the Americans only 400.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    The colonist had a idea to petition to the king peacefully. It said to stop fighting and end this peacefully, but the king said no. The colonist were ready ''To die freemen than die as slaves.'' Mean while Parliament was already sending over 2,000 men.
  • Invasion of Quebec

    Arnold's troops had a horrible trip to Canada, they were forced to eat shoe lether. The Americans lost, pat of it was because it was during a snow storm. they had to turn back.
  • The British Withdraw From Boston

    Washington placed cannons all around Boston. The British they could no longer defend the city so they fled Boston. The war was far from over. They already had all the ports closed and higher advantages at almost every level.
  • Intolerable Acts

    King George was very angry about the Boston Tea party so he passed 4 knew laws they were to close port of Boston, cut powers of town meetings, increase power of royal governor, and no more upper house. Also the Quebec Act which claimed between Ohio and the Missouri river for Canada.
