    Vietnam War was a war that occurred during the Cold War, starting on Nov 1, 1955 till April 30, 1975. The United States got involved in the civil war against North and South Vietnam to contain communism.The U.S didnt want communism to spread to other countries, so the U.S helped South Vietnam to fight North Vietnam. With modern technology and weapons, the U.S had an advantage but North Vietnam used guerrilla warfare which prolonged the war. Found in Chp 29, The Vietnam Era, Section 1.
  • Elvis Presley's Career Booms

    Elvis Presely was the most iconic and significant artist/actor of the 20th century. He was born on January 8, 1935. During the 50's was the first time Preseley's career started to sky-rocket. He released his second album "Elvis", which got number 1 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums for over 4 weeks.

    President John F. Kennedy, the 35th President, got assassinated at 12:30 p.m by Lee Harvey Oswald. He was fatally shot in the back of his head by a sniper while he was driving in his car with his wife for a parade at Dallas, Texas. This can be found in the textbook in Chapter 28, The Kennedy and Johnson Years, Section 2.

    The Black Panther was founded on October 16, 1966 by the original six members of the Black Panthers included Elbert “Big Man” Howard, Sherman Forte etc.. It originated in Oakland, California. The BPP was originaly a black organization for self defense.The Panthers also supported the Black Power movement, which stressed racial dignity and self-reliance.

    The Hippie Movement first started around the 1960's where a youth movement developed and eventually it spread through the country.The word 'hippie" originated from the word "hipster". Around 1967, the concept of being one with nature, communal living, spreading the love, music, and use of drugs got very popular as a counterculture of the 1960's. This can be found in Chapter 30, An Era of Protest and Change, Section 1-4.

    Robert F. Kennedy's Assassination
    Robert K. Kennedy also known as Bobby Kennedy, brother of John F. Kennedy, was assassinated on June 5, 1968 at midnight. He was in Los Angeles, California for the campaign of the US Presidential election, 1968. He was shot by Sirhan Sirhan, as Robert was walking through the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel. He was quickly escorted to the hostpital where he died shortly.

    On November 15, 1969 almost half a million people showed up at Washington D.C for an antiwar protrest which was the largest in the United States history. This antiwar protest against the Vietnam War was staged by the Vietnam Moratorium Committee. The protest featured speeches by antiwar politicians, including Eugene McCarthy, George McGovern and Charles Goodell. Also it featured music performances by Peter, Paul and Mary, Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger.

    The Ping-Pong Diplomacy was the first time the U.S was able to get into close relation with China, when the American Ping-pong team recieved a surprise invitation by the Chinese for an all expense paid visit to the People's Republic. Nine U.S ping-pong players and 4 officials were the first group of Americans to be allowed in China since communism took over in 1949.

    The Watergate Sandal was a major scandal that occurred in the U.S by President Nixon and his administration, On June 17, 1972 Nixon's administration broke into the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington, D.C. to steal tapes to sabotage the opposing party in the election. Nixon's administration attempted to cover-up the scandal but failed. As a result on August 9, 1974, President Nixon resigned as President and 48 people were found guilty.

    Hurricane Carmen was an intense tropical cyclone of destructive winds and widespread storms. It was classified as a Category 4 hurricane. It orginated from Africa heading towards the carribeans. Eventually it was predicted to hit United States in the dense city of New Orleans but strayed westward heading towards Louisiana where it hit. It damaged crops and killed several people and left over $162 million dollars of damage, devastating the lives of many.

    John Lennonn was an American musician who was known for being one of the founding members of the famous band, The Beatles, He was assassinated on December 8, 1980 outside in the entrance of the building where he lived, the Dakota, New York, by Mark David Champan. This was a huge loss for the music industry in the U.S. Many fans were devasted by this tragedy.
  • Attempted Reagen Assassination

    Attempted Reagen Assassination
    President Ronald Reagen was attemped to be assassinated by a man named, John Hinckley Jr, who shot Reagen in his chest and lower right arm. Three others were shot also at the same time. Reagen was shot outside of the Washington Hilton Hotel as he was leaving a speaking engagement. As Reagen was shot, he was quickly escorted to the hospital where suffered a punctured lung and heavy internal bleeding, but medical attention helped him recover quickly.
