Desegregation of the university of Alabama

This was a large event in civil rights history and very highly contested at the time, with the mayor of the town protesting it by standing in their way. -

Forrest Gump gets to meet Kennedy when he makes the All-American football team. He then goes on to talk about how the loss of Kennedy was a "real tragety". the 35th President of the United States, was assassinated on Friday, November 22, 1963, at 12:30 p.m. in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a presidential motorcade in Dealey Plaza. -
Black Panther Party
Key Concepts 8.2 Group of protesters that looked to gain equality for African Americans. Sometimes demonstrations led to violence and many news headlines. In the movie Forrest gets to meet some of the members of the Black Panther Party and visits one of their headquarters. -
Elvis Presley
In the movie Elvis Presley comes to stay at the Boarding Home that the Gumps run. Young Forrest dances in a very odd way while Elvis plays the guitar. This eventually inspires Elvis Presley to find new dance moves similar to those that Forrest showed him. Elvis inspired a musical revolution throughout the 60s and 70s -

The Moon Landing
