    Cardinal Mazarin and Anne of Austria, introduce policies that consolidate power giving the king more power, and ,making France a more absolute monarchy. This took any actual power that nobles and aristocrats held at the time, which leads to unrest and uprising.

    The death of Cardinal Mazarin, leads to the KIng's decision to rule withou a chief advisor. This created a stronger absolute monarchy, because it meant Louis XIV was now the sole leader of France, without anyone to for him to consult with. This also marks the true beginning of Louis' rule because up until this point Cardinal Mazarin and Louis' mother, Anne of Austria, had been making most of the major decisions due to Louis' lack of .

  • King Louis XIV revokes Edict of Nantes

    Edict of Nantes originally granted Huguenots (French Protestantes) freedom to worship, and other rights, however the revocation of this edict meant that Protestants could no longer freely worship. This was followed by the Edict of Fontainebleau. This latter edict ordered the closure of Protestant schools, and expulsion of any protestant clergy, as well the destruction of Protestant churches. Now all children were required to be Catholic.
