This event happened becaue the Southern states refused to give up their slaves after the Emancipation Proclamation was written. Most Southern states seceded, and then began the Civil War against the Union states. This is important because this was a step to free the slaves from slavery. -

Abraham Lincoln was the first president to get assasinated. Abraham Lincoln got assasinated while watching the play Our American Cousin. The person who planned the assasination was John Wilkes Booth. This event is important because it would change the future history of the United States.
