    Around the 1780's, there is an all time high crime rate in Great Britain. This crime rate leads to the overpopulation on prisons. As the only option, Australian leaders decide to expand their convict colony to Australia.

    British Arrive in Australia (First Fleet)
    Due to the overpopulation on prisons, the British descended on a mission to find new land for their convicts. They made their journey on 11 ships carrying between 1,000 and 1,500 convicts, crewmen, and settlers. This journey took 252 days and nearly 100 travelers were killed.

    British Settlers Clash with Australian Natives

    When the British arrives in New South Wales, they differed harshly with the indigenous people of the region. The first known fight between the two populations. These conflicts roared on for a believed 146 years. At least 20,000 indigenous people and between 2,000 and 2,500 Europeans were killed in these battles. Aside from the fatalities to the Aboriginals through battle, many were killed through disease. Infertility, loss of hunting grounds, and starvation were also devastating the the natives.

    European settlers often viewed the Aboriginals as subpar and non- human. The settlers treated the natives as animals and disregarded their opinions and did not value their lives. This resulted in the many fatal conflicts between the two minorities.

    During the 1850's, gold was discovered in numerous areas throughout Southern Australia. This drew many more settlers to Australia from all over the world. Due to this discovery, there was a massive population increase. This increases in population resulted in Australia becoming a United Nation, basically cutting all ties from Great Britain.
