    A person eats a food or substance that causes their first allergic reaction.

    Step 2
    When that person eats that food or substance their body then create an antibody or proteins that then detects harmful substances.
  • Step 3

    Step 3
    The antibody then attaches itself to cells found in the body to prepare if that food may enter into the body again.
  • Step 4

    Step 4
    When the food eventually enters the body again it attaches to the antibodies and sends signals to the body to release histamine.

    Step 5
    The histamine released in the body then causes swelling and irritation to many parts of their body.
  • Step 6

    Step 6
    The results of this irritation caused by the allergen can vary from hives, trouble breathing, to anaphylaxis.
