  • 1969

    The initial design for the internet is documented. The ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) create the foundation of which would eventually become the internet
  • 1970

    The ARPANET starts to expand, with creating an additional node each month.
  • 1971

    The first public demonstration of the ARPANET happens in Washington, DC at the International Conference on Computer Communication.
  • 1973

    The ARPANET has 30 institutions connected to it. Companies such as NASA, BBN and more. A man by the name of Bob Metcalfe begins to work on a wired base network system that would eventually go on to become the ethernet.
  • 1974

    Daily traffic on the ARPANET exceeds 3 million packets.
  • 1976

    Development of the TCP/IP protocols begins
  • 1980

    The National Science Board becomes an early supporter of the internet through approving a new plan that helps to construct the basis of the internet.
  • 1982

    Time magazine names ‘the computer’ its ‘Man of the Year.
  • 1986

    TCP/IP is starting to be introduced into various computers and networks being made from this point on.
  • 1989

    More countries start to join the internet, such as Australia, England, Japan, Mexico and more. Host number increases from 80,000 to 160,000
  • 1992

    The internet becomes an intergral part of all businesses. The number of networks in the world goes past 7,500 and there are over 1,000,000 computers in the world
