    John Dewey Instrumentalism which is a "pragmatism" is believed to be an idea or tool that should be used to get results. Pragmatism is the philosophical movement that includes those who claim that an ideology or proposition is true if it works satisfactorily, that the meaning of a proposition is to be found in the practical consequences of accepting it, and that unpractical areas are to be rejected.

    Now Dewey's theory of pragmatism was that knowledge was an active adaptation within humans. This was known as "Instrumentalism". John's philosophy of education was that human beings learn through "hands-on" approaches. He believed that reality must be experienced and that students must interact with their environment in order to adapt and learn.
