  • John Witherspoon

    A clergyman who signed the DOI. He represented the state of New Jersey.
  • John Hancock

    Representatve from Massachusetts. He was the first to sign the DOI (He wrote it really big and fancy). He was the president of the first Continental Congress
  • Charles Carroll

    He served on the first Committee of Safety, at Annapolis, in 1775, and also in the Provincial Congress. He visited the Continental Congress in 1776. Maryland Convention decided to join in support for the Revolution. Carroll was elected to represent Maryland on the 4th of July, and though he was too late to vote for the DOI, he did sign it.
  • John Jay

    Representative from New York at the continental congress. Signed the DOI. Helped negotiate the Treaty of Paris in 1783 that ended the American Revolution. He was a diplomat to England and negotiated Jay's Treaty. He was the very 1st chief justice of the supreme court.
  • Benjamin Rush

    Treasurer of the US Mint and a founding father. He signe the DOC and attended the continental congress.
  • John Peter Muhlenberg

    A clergyman. Also a soldier in the colonial, revelutionary abd post-revolutionary conflicts. He was one of the first elected US congressman
  • Decllaration of Independence

    It announced the colonies freedom from British rule and set fourth the foundating principles of the US.
  • US Constitution

    Fundamental law by which a nation is organized and goverened structure government. It establishes basic rules of governing, primary source of nation's policy-making power. Limits the governments power.

    These are the rights of the people accused of crimes; they cannot be deprived of life, liberty, property without following certain steps that give the person a fair chance; the government cannot take away a person’s property for public use without somehow paying them back; no one can be put on trial for a serious crime unless a grand jury decides there is enough evidence; if someone is put on trial for a certain crime and the trial ends, the person cannot be tried once more for the same crime, (
