    Araminta Ross (Harriet) was born in Dorchester County, Maryland to Harriet Green and Benjamin Ross.
  • Married John Tubman

    At the age of 25, Harriet married John Tubman who was a free African American.
  • Escape to Freedom

    Harriet left the Brodess Plantation with two of her brothers to head north to freedom. Her brothers returned to the plantation, but she continued on alone to freedom.
  • Harriet Becomes Official Conductor

    Harriet had made a couple of successful trips to help others to freedom. She was familiar with the routes and safe houses. She took an oath to keep silent about the secrets of the Underground Railroad.
  • Harriet Returns for John Tubman

    Harriet returned to the south to reunite with her husband and take him to freedom in the north. John had remarried and did not want to go with Harriet.
  • Harriet Rescues her Parents

    Harriet was able to transport her parents by carriage to Canada where they would be free. They were unable to walk like many of her other "passengers" because they were elderly.
  • Harriet's Final Trip

    Harriet's final trip on the Underground Railroad was to Maryland in which she rescued seven more people. Over the ten years that she was a conductor, it is said that she rescued over 300 slaves in the 19 trips she made back to the south.
