    It's a Girl!
On June 1st, I was born! And so my literacy journey had officially began! Even from the time I was born, my Mom started reading me books even though I had no idea what she was saying. She would read to me every morning when I would wake up and every night to put me to sleep.

    So it Begins!
When I turned two, we started a new tradition in the Davis home, I could still barley talk but I loved to pick out different books from my bookshelf. So every night when my mom would take me into my room I would dart to the bookshelf and pick out at least 10 books! My mom would then thumb threw them and pick out one that she hadn't read to me in a while and that is how she would put me to bed every night.

    A is for Apple!
I remember around third grade starting to use pictures to help me connect to letters in the alpahbet. We made our little books that had each letter and a word thtat we associated with that letter. It made learning the alpahbet a lot easier for me because I could put that word or picture with the letter.
  • Time for Second Grade!

    Time for Second Grade!
My mom was a teacher in our district, so growing up I would always go to school with her early in the morning and sit in her room until it was time for me to go to my class. Early on in the school year, my mom realized that I was BORED! Sitting there every single morning until it was time for me to go, got old real quick. So after school, she started taking me into the library and she would let me pick 3 books and I would bring them with me in the morning and sit there and read them all.
  • Second Grade Continued

Then I would return those books after school and pick new ones. This was something I started to look forward to everyday, I came in my moms room SO excited to read my books and get new ones. This really started a spark in my love for books!
  • Think Think Think!

    Think Think Think!
I remember around fourth grade when we would read stories out loud as a class that my teacher would use the think aloud strategy. This helped me literacy comprehension tremendously, she made me feel like it was okay if I didn't know an answer to a question in the text right away and it was okay if I was confused about something. It made me love reading even more and help be understand the text even better.
  • Middle School Years, Yuck!

    Middle School Years, Yuck!
This is unfortunatley where my love for books faded for a while. Once we got into middle school, it was all about our RC points for reading class. This consisted of having to read books and take ten question tests on them and earn so many points for each book. In the reading classes, this was a requirement, therefore by December, reading started to feel more like a burden then something I enjoyed.

    High School Here I Come!
Although middle school was a rough patch for me and reading, I quickly found love again in books my Freshmen year of high school. All the girls in my grade kept talking about these Twilight books, and after awhile I became curious myself. I went to the library and then noticed how incredibly LONG the books were. However, I thought I would give it a try, and just like that I was hooked! The Twilight series had made me fall in love with reading all over again!

    Student Teaching

During my Junior and Senior year of high school, I student taught in many elementary grade levels. One thing I loved doing was reading to my students. Having them all circle up around my chair and listen to me read and see there expressions during every part brought me so much joy! Knowing that I could be the reason that the students like or dislike reading was a big burden but I was so happy to be apart of it.

    College Life
At the beginning of my second semester of Sophomore year I had a teacher for my elementary reading class that just opened my eyes to reading literature and made me fall in love with so much more! He was so passoniate about the subject and you could tell, I was never spaced off and bored in the class. The way he brought a new point of view to every children's book was something I loved. It brought that mystery and wonder back into childen's lit. for me!
