    Louis Braille was born in Coupvray, France.

    Braille lost his sight when he was three years old accidently. While playing in his father's workshop, his eye was stabbed with a stitching awl.

    The Barbier's Night Writing System was introduced to him. It was originally meant to be for the French military while reading in the dark. It used to have a twelve dot cell, which was hard and complicated becasue a person's finger could not feel all the dots at once. Therefore, he wanted to make it easier so blind people could use it.

    Braille improved and developed the system to be much simpler and easier.It was presented to Dr. Pignier, the director of the Royal Institute for Blind Youth, who got amazed by it.

    Louis graduated and started to teach his system to some blind people he knew. Then, he was offered a job at the school he graduated from to teach his system.

    At the age of 26, Braille was diagnosed with tuberculosis, which was a deadly lung disease.
