    Civil Rights Movement

    The Civil Rights Movement was the largest combined effort for civil rights done by African Americans in Americas history. It sprung up famous civl rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. The movement was largely focused on abolishing segregation in all forms. The movement proved to be successful in the end.

    Space Race

    The Space Race began after the Soviets launched the first satellite (Sputnik) into space in 1954. This event soon after caused a massive race to essentially show who was more technologically superior to one another by the United States and the Soviet Union. The United Sates is considered to have won after the first moon landing (Apollo 11) in 1969.

    Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War was another large proxy war against communism and democracy. After the French left in 1954, the communist (Viet Minh) raised up and attempted to unite all of Vietnam. The South rebelled, installing a democrat government. The United States sent 10s of thousands of troops to resist and train south Vietnamese against the Viet Cong. The United States did not send enough effort into Vietnam, eventually evacuating and giving the Northern Vietnamese victory.

    Hippy Generation

    The Hippy Generation was born as the civil rights movement was coming to a close. This generation is know as the 'counterculture' generation. The hippies were extremely against the Vietnam War, more leanant to far left ideology, and expressed large amounts of sexuality and drug use.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    With Cuban counterrevolutionaries and American military personal, the United States conducted an operation to prevent the establishment of Fidel Castro communist government in Cuba. The operation was a complete failure due to outdated intelligence reports. The event is known for setting up the future Cuba Missile Crises.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    In response to learning of massive nuclear build up in Turkey by the United States, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics made a deal to the new communist country of Cuba to send their own nuclear arsenals. The Americans eventually found out and blockaded any further shipments to Cuba. The World braced for nuclear war during the highest point in the Cold War. The United States and the Soviet Union agreed to remove their nuclear weapons from the respected countries to maintain peace.
  • JFK Assassination

    President John Fitzgerald Kennedy took a presidential motorcade parade through Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963. Soon after, Lee Harvey Oswald shot both Kennedy and the Texas Governor John Connally. John Connally survived, but a serious headshot wound eventually killed the President. It was one of the most famous president assassinations in history.

    Watergate Scandal

    President Nixon's administration received major accusations of espionage against the Democratic Party. The Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington D.C. was infiltrated by unknown men. They ransacked in search for evidence to use against the Democratic Party for president Nixon. The press eventually got a hold and lead the largest political investigation in history. Nixon eventually resigned and was protected from prosecution by his VP Gerald Ford who became president.
