  • First Day of Kindergarden

    First Day of Kindergarden
    Event: Upon arrival I remeber feeling excited and interested in the experience. Upon entering the school we waited with all the other kids and parents in a crowded hall way. I remember seeing what appeared as quite a few kids crying in horror. Thus, I began to cry. I used avoidance to cope and I ended up over coming this challenge because I loved school and the different activities I was able to do. Stress Response: Physiological (Sympathetic) Coping: Avoidance, Somatic symptoms
  • Parents Divorce

    Parents Divorce
    Parents decide to separate and me and my mother relocate two hours away from my father.
    In response to the stress, I felt an Internalization of feelings of rejection, Anger toward my dad. I saw his behavior causing my mom to leave. I felt responsible for mom’s feelings.
    Coping: Negative.
    Current Effectual Perspective: This plays out into a mode of internalizing outside experience to decreased self-worth and self-acceptance.
  • Broken Arm

    Broken Arm
    Event: Broke both bones in my arm causing a tear through my skin and needing surgery, leaving me unable to do anything.
    Stress Response: Shock – Psychological…calm and worried when seeing parental response.
    Coping: Interesting calm and objective perception.
    Current Effectual Perspective: Positive, Increased awareness to ability to remain calm under crisis situations
  • New Student at a New School

    New Student at a New School
    Event: Being a new student is one of the hardest situations I have ever experienced. Going into a new school with no one with you to have your back was very hard. This caused me a lot of stress because I felt alone.
    Stress Response: Anxiety and excitement
    Coping: Regression when picked on
  • Death Of my Grandfather

    Death Of my Grandfather
    Event: Grandfather passed away, mournful time

    Stress Response: Grief...Both physiological and psychological responses.
    Coping: Closeness with mother and grandmother. Talked, reminisced, and accepted pain in relation to loss.
    Current Effectual Perspective: Positive, This experience helped me frame personal significance and importance within the life experience.
