My Technology Story

  • VHS Tapes

    VHS Tapes
Difficult were the days when I had to wait for my movie to rewind, before I could watch it. However, there was something so fascinating watching it play backwards on the screen. Now, DVDs are even seeming out of date when all movies can be bought electronically and streamed onto the TV. No need to worry about your favorite movie unwinding and becoming ruined!

  • Books on Tape

    Books on Tape
In today's world kids have touchscreen tablets to play interactive learning games, and are able to download an unlimited amount of books. When I was little and learning to read I had books on tape. It was so exciting to pop that cassette tape in, and read along with it. Now, kids don't even know what a cassette tape is.

    My 1st Handheld Game
The Gameboy Color isn't up to the handheld touchscreen gaming systems that kids have today, but it sure kept me entertained for hours at a time. My dad and I would spend hours trying to advance to the next levels on Mario and my treasured Mary-Kate & Ashley mystery game.

  • HitClips

    HitClips
Before iTunes and iPods came about there were HitClips. This small little box had one ear piece, and could play as many little songs as you could buy. Each song "box" only had about 30 seconds worth of music, but I'll never forget trading them with friends and admiring each others collections.

  • Overhead Projector

    Overhead Projector
Before there were document cameras, there was the overhead projectors. In elementary school teachers would break out their transparencies and special markers to project our worksheets and notes. Now it's just a matter of turning a camera on.

  • My First Cell Phone

    My First Cell Phone
In 6th grade my parents bought me my first cell phone. IT didn't have a camera, I couldn't text, and the app store had yet to be invented. However, I thought it was so cool that I had my own portable phone I could call (not text) my friends on. Today, I can't remember the last time I called one of my friends just to talk, that's what texts are for, right?

  • My 1st Social Media Page

    My 1st Social Media Page
After the AOL instant message craze died, there became Myspace. You could create your own fully customizable page, and "friend" other people. In middle school it was a big deal of who was on your "Top Friends" page and what order they appeared in. Now social media has evolved into likes, favorites, and so much more.

  • The First iPhone

    The First iPhone
When I was in 8th grade I was lucky enough to get the first iPhone for Christmas. After having it for about three months, I hated it! Can you believe that? Wanting to have a phone with actual buttons? However, within the next few years the app store came along and that changed everything. iPhones today make that one look tiny and cubby. How was I ever able to type on that tiny screen?
